Homework (or
“workshop”)
assignments
Generalities
There are three assignments during the semester. Of these at least two must be
completed, handed in before deadline, and accepted (grade at least 2) in order
to go in for the final written exam. You are encouraged to solve the assignments
together with fellow students (max. four students per group).
If you do not know the other students, but would like
to have one or two co-workers, you may send me an e-mail about it. Then I might
be able to match you with somebody else in the same situation.
You may answer the problem set in
English or Scandinavian as you prefer, either using a computer or readable
handwriting. The maximum number of pages is 8.
The deadlines are February 18, March 18, and
April
29, in all three cases 10:00-12:00.
The assignment problems will be announced at the course website at 15:00
Tuesday nine days before deadline.
The deadlines are a must. If you miss a deadline, the only way out is to
make sure that you don’t miss the next deadline. You should hand in a printed
version of your paper. Thus an attachment in an e-mail is not
acceptable.
On the front page of your paper you write the following:
1) Full name of all the authors.
2) The first six digits of their cpr. numbers.
3) Date.
4) Name of the course and the teacher.
Place where you hand in your paper:
Økonomisk Institut, Studiekontoret (Mia Kildetoft), CSS Building 25,
ground floor, office 25.0.09. Postal address:
Studiekontoret, Økonomisk Institut, Øster Farimagsgade 5, Bygning 25, 1353
København K.
Workshop and consultation
The two subsequent Thursdays after the announcement of the homework
assignment the exercise classes are replaced by workshops with the
teacher in the role as a consultant. The class room CSS 2.0.42 (no
longer 1.0.10) is
at free disposal for those who want to do the assignment problems there.
Except the first time, Thursday 11th February, I will generally not be present
in the room, but at my office (Building 26, sec. floor). In any event, in the
time interval 8:15-10:00 these Thursdays, I will be available as a consultant,
answering questions a.s.a.p., whether received by e-mail or personal
application.
I evaluate your papers ("accepted" or "not accepted") and return them, with comments, the subsequent Thursday where we all meet in class and discuss the solutions. Acceptance requires performance corresponding to at least the grade 2. In order to go in for the final written examination (three hours, closed book) at the end of the semester it is required that the midterm paper is accepted.

Third homework assignment:
here (there were unclear formulations in
Problem 2.a) and 3.b) in the version published here 20/4 at 14:00; they are now,
20/4 15:00, corrected). Correction to
Problem 1.g): "based on a production subsidy to basic goods producers"
should read "based on a subsidy on purchases of monopolized intermediate goods".
Second homework assignment:
here. Hint 1: on p. 2,
right after eq. (2), a slightly more inspiring formulation would be: "where x
and Lambda are given constants ...".
Hint 2: as to Problem 1.c), if
you cannot get started, you may consult Lecture Note 9, p. 7.
